Harm Reduction
Meeting People Where They Are at, Without Judgment
At the Recovery Coach Leadership Academy (RCLA), harm reduction is a core principle of how we support individuals impacted by substance use and justice involvement. We recognize that recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and every step toward safety, stability, and wellness matters.
-
We honor each individual’s choices and meet people where they are in their journey—without stigma, shame, or pressure.
-
RCLA prioritizes reducing immediate risks associated with substance use by promoting safer practices, overdose prevention, and access to life-saving resources. The RCLA offers free Opioid Overdose Prevention Training
-
We recognize that positive change happens in steps. Whether it’s reducing use, engaging in services, or building stability, every step forward counts. The CPRS at RCLA will help participants develop a Recovery Wellness Plan that uses SMART goals to simplify the process

The Opioid Overdose Prevention Training equips individuals and organizations with the knowledge and skills to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose. Participants learn how naloxone (Narcan) works, how to properly administer it, and the critical steps to take during an overdose emergency. The training also covers current opioid trends, legal protections under Minnesota’s Good Samaritan Law, and how to access life-saving resources—empowering community members to confidently act and save lives.
Please contact the RCLA to schedule a training for your organization, or check the RCLA website for the next public training.
I have been a community trainer in partnership with the Steve Rummler Hope Network for 3 years. The SRHN has played a crucial role in saving lives by training people in Opioid Overdose Prevention. This free training will teach you how to recognize, report and respond to an opioid overdose. You will learn how you are protected and will leave with the skills necessary to save someone’s life.
